About Department

The Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering (EEE)  established in the academic year 1980-81 with an intake of 40 and subsequently later on enhancing 60 students in the year 1985. The Department also offers M.Tech programme with specialization in Power Electronics from the academic year 2010-11 with an intake of 18 students  and affiliated to VTU, Belagavi.  The Research and Development(R&D) center of the department is recognized by the VTU, Belagavi, and offeres M.Sc(Engineering) by Research and PhD Program from the academic year 2008-2009. Currently 17 Research scholars are pursuing their Ph.D. in the department.

The department received ISO: 9001 – 2000 quality management certification and accredited by National Board of Accreditation (NBA), National Assessment and Accreditation Council(NAAC), Bangalore. The department is  Aided by the  Government of Karnataka since Oct 1992. UGC has conferred academic autonomous status for the UG and PG in the academic year 2010-11 and 2018-19 respectively. 

The Department has 15 faculty including HOD of which 06 are Doctorates from recognized universities and organizations with diversified specializations like Power Electronics, Power Systems, and High Voltage and Insulation Engineering, etc. 09 Faculty members who have done their UG and PG degree from top-notch universities. Faculties have published technical papers in well-known National/International Journals and are members of prestigious professional bodies like IEEE, IE(I), ISTE. The management has keen interest to promote quality education and provide financial assistance to faculty members for attending Conferences etc. The Department also encourages the staff members to pursue Ph.D programmes to improve their academic qualifications. The infrastructure and laboratory facilities are being upgraded from time to time so as to provide adequate opportunities to students and researchers to learn and carry out technological innovations. Financial support for this purpose is provided by the PVP Welfare trust, university and TEQIP World Bank.

The department faculty is successfully engaging the sponsored research projects funded by various agencies such as AICTE, VTU, VGST, and PVP welfare trust and actively involving in consultancy activities. 

The mandates of the department are:

  • Excellence in scientific research in the areas of Electrical and Electronics Engineering and interdisciplinary branches of engineering.
  • Nurturing talent and development of manpower through academic and scientific pursuit.
  • Development and Transfer of technology to industry and societal needs through networking with R & D Centres/Industries and academic institutions.
  • Mission-mode initiative for innovative Electrical and Electronics Engineering projects and allied technologies to foster inclusive development.
  • Motivation and development of entrepreneurship skills for budding engineers.

 

The department is enriching the students industry-ready by aligning the Electrical and Electronics curriculum in such a way that they are trained for broad career opportunities through current technology and the best practices in the area of Electrical and Electronics technology. The Department conducts industrial tours/visits in every year and visits to various industries and power houses for students are arranged as part of their curriculum 

The laboratories in the department are well equipped with good infrastructure software like MATLAB, PSIM, Keil, etc. as per VTU and AICTE and Supported by Texas instrument boards for UG and Research Projects. The department facilitates industry-institute interaction with the industries like Wistron Corporation, Infosys, TCS Technologies, Electronono solutions, etc. through Collaborations for industrial visits, internships, workshops, and job opportunities. The department of EEE aims at a holistic approach towards the overall development of students at large through building technical skills and Quality Managerial skills.
