Title of the Paper : Foil stiffness optimization of a gas lubricated thrust foil bearing in enhancing load carrying capability

Research Description : Air Foil Thrust Bearings (AFTB) are self-acting hydrodynamic members that support axial loads of high-speed rotating turbo-machineries. The load bearing capacity of such bearings mainly depends on the foil structure. The proposed Foil Thrust Bearing of 60 mm in diameter, designed and fabricated for performance evaluation, consists of a single top foil with an inner edge height equal to that of outer edge. This paper focuses on optimizing the foil stiffness in terms of foil thickness for steel and copper foil material with 60° and 90° sector angles. Various configurations of Gas Foil Thrust Bearings (GFTB) are tested for structural stiffness and thrust loads at higher operating speeds with an instrumented test rig dedicated for the purpose. Both geometric and operating parameters are varied to determine the best possible foil stiffness that enhances the load carrying capability of the Air Foil Thrust Bearing operating under hydrodynamic condition. CFD Simulation is also carried out to indicate the pressure distribution on the foil surface for the said bearing at actual boundary conditions.

Title of the Paper : Experimental investigation on mechanical properties of polymer composites reinforced with aluminium nitride & rice husk

Research Description : The current examination work accomplishes the formation of epoxy composites with hybrid fillers of Rice husk and Aluminium nitride. The hybrid filler composites were broadly described to comprehend the morphology and mechanical behaviour. The test conduct is to study the mechanical behaviour of polymer composites reinforced with hybrid micro fillers. Micro particle reinforce of Rice husk (RH) and Aluminium nitride (AIN) in different weight proportionate ranging from 0 to 20 wt% and with suitable combination, so here we developed composite specimen in the ratio of 1:1, 1:3 and 3:1 wt%. The molecular structure and surface morphology of the hybrid filler & its interaction with the continuous phase were examined by utilizing Scanning electron microscope instrument. The X-Ray Diffraction (XRD) affirmed that the AIN particle were glass like i.e crystalline in nature and micro sized. Energy dispersive X-beam spectroscopy (EDS) are used to study the chemical composition of the specimen.

Title of the Paper : Experimental Investigation on Mechanical Properties of Epoxy with Hybrid Filler Composites

Research Description : The development and mechanical properties of polymer composites are achieved by using the nanoclay and rice husk powder fillers reinforced in epoxy matrices. The composites were prepared by keeping weight fraction of matrix as 80% and varying the wt% of the reinforcements by using the hand layup technique. The results revealed that 12 wt% of rice husk and 2.5, 5.0 & 7.5 wt% of nanosized nanoclay filler-reinforced composites yield better mechanical properties.
